ReSOURCE (2009 – 2012)

ReSOURCE is an initiative for small to medium-sized regions in central Europe where mining is being wound down or has already stopped. The aim of the project is to highlight the potential opportunities created by mining’s legacy. There are plans to create a handbook on innovative post-mining regional development methods and a strategy paper on development perspectives for national and trans-European decision-makers.

RenERg EuReg (2008 – 2010)

This is a bi-national project for innovative energy strategies. RenERg EuReg stands for »Renewable Energy Resources – a Solution for the Sustainable Development of Two European Regions.« The partners are various bodies in Lusatia and Romania’s Region Centru. The focus is on organising a knowledge and technology transfer between scientists and businesses in the two regions.

RW (2006 – 2007)

The EU-sponsored sustainable forestry management project RW (Robinwood) was conducted by the IBA with partners in Italy,Britain, Spain, and Slovakia. In Lusatia, a plantation of fast-growing trees on a recultivated mining site was used to demonstrate biomass production potential (»Welzow Energy Landscape »).

IdeQua (2004 – 2006)

The focus of this EU project to promote tourism is on identity and quality (IdeQua). The IBA is working on this project together with six European countries on a tourism axis between the Baltic and the Aegean. Its main concern was to create a quality standard for middle-sized tourism businesses.

REKULA (2003 – 2006)

This was an EU-sponsored cultural landscape restructuring project (REKULA) run by the IBA and various partners in Poland and Italy to find strategies to deal with disrupted industrial culture landscapes. The project’s results were documented in the handbook Landschaften verwandeln and presented at conferences in Cottbus, Gliwice, and Treviso.

VIKTOUR (2002 – 2005)

VIKTOUR (Virtueller Industrie-Tourismus) was another EU tourism promotion project. The project involved, among other things, creating tourist guidance for the Lusatia industrial cultural landscape and training tour guides.
