Tours into the Lake Land

Under the slogan “From desert to water,” the emerging Lusatian Lake Land can be best explored by bicycle, raft or mini van.

Private vehicles are not allowed. It will take about 20 years before the former coal pits on an area of about 14.000 hectares will have turned into lakes. Ten lakes are connected through a network of canals. Some of the lakes can already be navigated. Floating homes, the visitors’ construction site at the canal between Lake Senftenberg and Lake Geierswald (the most complicated in its engineering) and the Rusty Nail, an architecturally spectacular viewing tower at Sornoer Canal are all IBA projects that demonstrate the close relationship between the original landscape and the so-called ENERGY Route Lausitzer Industrial Sites. Tour guides explain the principle of flooding. A tour on a raft on the emerging lake completes the array of impressions.
